Greetings,
I wanted to update you all on the refund schedule. I have begun to send the refunds out in order of when you registered.
This was the most logical way I could process the refunds.
Those of you that ordered jerseys will receive your jersey and your refund by the middle of next week.
This is a lot of checks and much writing and signing.
I thank you for your patience and again everyone will receive a refund on their registration fees.
Sincerely,
Jon R. Smith
June 23, 2014
Greetings,
Jon Smith here, Event Director for the Cycle Salt Lake Century.
First off, I want to apologize for my complete lack of communication with most of you for this past month.
It is not acceptable and I hope you will forgive me for it.
You have the right to be angry and I accept complete responsibility as a result of the Cycle Salt Lake Century cancelation.
I will work on keeping an active dialog going with you from this point forward.
Second, my health has played a greater role than I ever thought possible in the past several months and especially the past 6 weeks.
Most of my life I have been blessed with good health and I am grateful for those years.
Arthritis in my hands, neck, back and hips has resulted in nerve and joint damage.
I have begun to feel like a pin cushion with the number of injections in all of the above areas.
I hate needles! I won’t go on about this but if you are interested in any further information you can contact me personally.
Third, many of you have received refunds, many more have not. I wish there was a faster way to process the refunds and get them to you.
I have many checks to write, sign and mail and this will take time.
I emphasis, everyone will have their money refunded!
We have shared too many cycling events together and I have been a part of the cycling community for 30+ years and part of the Cycle Salt Lake Century since 1992.
I’m not going anywhere and I will make good on my words.
Again, I sincerely apologize and am sorry for any inconvenience I have caused anyone.
Sincerely,
Jon R Smith
ATTENTION: The 2014 Salt Lake Century has been cancelled.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the 2014 Cycle Salt Lake Century scheduled for May 17th, has been cancelled.
Be assured there were many factors that went into this decision...a decision that was not made easily.
I have been associated with this ride for over 20 years. Each year, the ride has improved and we saw the number of riders increase.
This year, that did not happen. Other factors exist but the incredibly low number of registered riders is extremely significant.
Your registration fees will be returned. Jerseys which were ordered and paid for will be distributed.
Please accept my sincere apology for the disappointment and the inconvenience this has caused each of you. I value you as riders as well as friends.
I want to thank everyone who has made these rides possible and so successful for all these years:
the volunteers, sponsors, city officials, and, of course, the riders whose participation has made all the hard work worth it.
The Cycle Salt Lake Century, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, is proud to sponsor this annual
recreational bicycle event that features your choice of 36, 67 or 100 mile routes. Your entry fee will assist
the Salt Lake City Bicycle Advocacy Committee to build and maintain bicycle routes and trails and promote
cycling in Utah. Details, dates and times are listed below.
Since it's incorporation and organizing of the Cycle Salt Lake Century in 2001, the Cycle Salt Lake Century, Inc.
has donated over $100,000 to local organizations and charities that directly benefit Utahns. These groups include:
The Salt Lake City Mayors Bicycle Advisory Committee, Friends of Antelope Island,
The American Cancer Society's Man to Man Project and Murray Relay for Life, Local Senior Center Wasatch Manor Resident Committee,
Salt Lake City Bicycle Coalition, Utah Transit Authority and others. We are proud to be a
part of and give back to the communities we live in and to promote bicycling as a healthy lifestyle as well as an
alternative form of transportation.
All cyclists are welcome. This is a non-competitive event.

Saturday (day of the ride) 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM Check-in and packet pick-up / Late registration at the Utah State Fair Park, 300 North 1000 West. 7:30 AM Official start time. Riders may depart anytime between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM.
Due to the number of riders participating in the century ride, (over 2200 in 2012) we ask that younger riders, parents
with children in trailers, families or those not comfortable in a large group start at the back of the main pack. 5:00 PM Deadline for all cyclists to return to the finish.
ROUTES: Loops of 36, 67 and 100 miles on a route of mostly flat terrain.
All riders will depart from and return to the Utah State Fair Park
(Map).
All routes head north with the 100 mile route traveling to Antelope Island.
The 36 mile option is the perfect route for a family, parent with a child or the first timer to an organized bicycle event.
Warning: The above map should be fairly accurate but there may be last minute changes.
The maps should only be used to get a general idea of the route.
The route is finalized and marked only days before the ride making it difficult to update these maps in time.
The route is well marked (arrows painted on the road, signs, etc.). Your packet will include an updated paper map.
If you load the route into your GPS, do not follow it blindly - follow the course markings.
PARKING: Park in the gravel and paved lots as you enter the Fair Park from 1000 West near 200 North.
(Map).
HELMETS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL RIDERS!
SIGN UP: All participants must register, see the Register section below.
